Do you suffer from hypertension ? What did your doctor tell you ? More and more patients complain that their doctor gives them little practical information on how to eat better to try to lower blood pressure naturally, they are more concerned with prescribing the latest fashionable medical specialty ! Of course it’s a cliché, but overall reflects a certain reality about a number of city doctors !
Did you know that by changing one’s eating habits even a little, it is possible to reduce pressure naturally ? It has been shown that a diet rich in potassium, magnesium and calcium can help reduce and control hypertension. A diet suitable for people suffering from hypertension should include essential fatty acids, but the least possible amount of saturated fat, sugar, salt and fat.
Here’s a list of eight types of foods recommended for lowering blood pressure.
Spinach is among the list of foods that lower blood pressure. Spinach is rich in magnesium and helps prevent cardiovascular disease. They also contain folate which prevents the rise of homocysteine, which in excess can contribute to an increased risk of coronary heart disease and strokes. Cook them for the least possible time or better yet eat them raw in salads.
2. Sunflower seeds
Sunflower seeds are rich in potassium, magnesium and phytosterols that can help reduce cholesterol (an abnormally high level of cholesterol can narrow the arteries and blood vessels which obviously helps to elevate blood pressure).
Bananas are rich in potassium and contains a lot of fiber. Try to eat at least two bananas a day.
4. Some fish
All oils or fats are not always bad for health. Far from it! Unsaturated oils can help reduce the rate of bad cholesterol (LDL) and provide the body with the essential fatty acids it needs. Fish containing omega-3 fatty acids prevent the risk of cardiovascular disease.
Trout, salmon, mackerel, herring and sardines are particularly fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids. It is best to grill or steam them. Do not add salt when cooking them. It is best to eat fresh fish but if you have no other choice than buying them in cans, check carefully the amount of salt on the label !
There are also dietary supplements from salmon oil which are rich in unsaturated Omega 3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA).
Garlic acts against atherosclerosis and hypertension. Take at least four cloves of garlic per day. It is best to chew a portion so as to conserve the most therapeutic properties possible. Garlic breath is unpleasant – I agree with you! So if that bothers you tremendously, take garlic supplements.
Tomatoes are special mention among food items that lower blood pressure. Tomatoes are rich in calcium and potassium and contain vitamin A, C and E. Tomatoes also contain lycopene, a powerful antioxidant that is known to prevent cardiovascular disease. The antioxidants found in tomatoes can prevent LDL cholesterol or bad cholesterol from oxidizing and sticking to the walls of blood vessels (which would contribute to an increase in blood pressure).
One way to enjoy the herbal properties of tomatoes is to take fruit juice. Of course, it is best to prepare the tomato juice yourself. If you buy it ready-made, make sure the juice is 100% natural and does not contain added salt !
Broccoli is rich in potassium but it also contains chromium which helps regulate blood glucose and insulin levels. Do not cook it too much! Cook it in a pan with just the right amount of water needed to cover it and it will not lose its nutrients. It would be best to eat it raw.
Hawthorn tea rests among the many foods that lower blood pressure. Hawthorn dilates coronary arteries and increases blood flow to the heart and thus lowers blood pressure. Use a mixture of leaves and flowers to make a tea. Place two teaspoons of this mixture in a cup and add boiling water. Let steep twenty minutes before eating. Drink two to three cups per day.
The ideal would be to combine hawthorn with two other hypotensive herbs. This is garlic (Allium sativum ) that we have already mentioned, and olive (Olea europaea).
There are capsules that combine the advantages of the three plants to obtain best results in controlling blood pressure, and have no taste or smell !
