Classification of Natural Laxatives

In nature, there are many natural laxatives which act in different ways in the gut. Here are 5 classes of laxatives :

* An osmotic laxative ( lactulose, mannitol, sorbitol, etc.) which increases the volume of fluid in the colon, thereby promoting bowel evacuation.

* A stimulant laxative (aloe, buckthorn, rhubarb, senna, etc.) which has the characteristic therapeutic irritate the lining of the intestine, which stimulates intestinal peristalsis.

* A bulk laxative (dietary fiber, psyllium, maltodextrose, etc .) increases the volume of stool in the presence of water, which facilitates their removal by mechanical action.

* A laxative lubricant (paraffin oil). As its name indicates, it lubricates and softens stools, increasing their slickness and expulsion.

* A rectal laxative causes the reflex of defecation.

1. EPSOM SALT

Epsom salt or magnesium sulfate is a natural solution for instant constipation relief. It belongs to the class of osmotic laxatives. Epsom salt is a remedy that is works in two different ways. Firstly, the salt attracts water in the intestines and softens the stools so that they may be expelled more easily. Second, the magnesium present in the salt promotes the contraction of the bowel muscles.

For adults, dilute 2 teaspoons of Epsom salts in a fruit juice or water. For a child, 1/2 teaspoon of Epsom salt is sufficient. If after 4 hours of waiting, the person does not always go to the bathroom, repeat by taking this natural remedy a second and final time.

If the laxative does not give the desired result on the same day, go and see a doctor.

2. ALOE VERA JUICE

The juice of Aloe Vera (Aloe barbadensis Mill. and Aloe vulgaris Lam.) is a natural laxative belonging to the class of stimulant laxatives. Aloe is considered a quick and effective remedy for treating punctual gastrointestinal disorders.

Doctors Joseph Pizzorno and Michael Murray, both naturopaths, claim that aloe juice is a powerful and effective stimulant laxative. The Aloe Vera juice increases secretions and accelerates the natural contractions of the intestine.

The so-called milk of magnesia is none other than magnesium hydroxide, a white powder practically insoluble in water. Milk of magnesia is a fast acting osmotic laxative (between 30 minutes to 4 hours), which fights constipation by creating a call for water in the intestines. This increase in water stimulates intestinal motility and increases stool bulk, which causes a bowel movement and promotes stool removal.

Drink plenty of water with taking milk of magnesia for instant constipation relief.

It is not recommended to use milk of magnesia in cases of renal failure, heart disease or phosphorus depletion.

4. SENNA

Senna is an herb that contains anthraquinone, a natural purgative substance which is also found in the buckthorn, aloe and rhubarb. The anthraquinone contained in senna leave sirritates the intestinal mucosa and stimulates peristalsis of the small intestine and colon.

Even though it is a plant and a natural laxative, senna should only be used to treat occasional constipation because it can lead to dependence.

Senna should therefore not be used for more than one week, unless under medical supervision. This treatment should not be given to a child under 12 years of age. Be sure to follow the doses prescribed by the manufacturer.

5. BLACKSTRAP MOLASSES

Blackstrap molasses is a thick dark brown liquid which comes from the extractions of sugar cane. Blackstrap molasses is very effective in helping people with chronic or occasional constipation in a natural and economical way. Laxatives can cause electrolytes (Na+,K+, Ca++, etc.) to become dangerously out of balance. Electrolytes are responsible for conducting nerves and providing muscle function – including your heart and brain. In some cases, these electrolyte imbalances can result in hospitalization and even be life threatening.

Through my experience, I learned that each individual is different. What works extremely well for the majority doesn’t work at all for others. Some would come back unrelieved and we would determine a better solution for them. We all have a unique body with different chemistry, physiology and medical history.

This plan uses a strategically organized and ordered combination of the safest and most effective natural remedies for constipation. Every strategy is carefully researched for safety and effectiveness. Each remedy builds on the last while helping out the next.

The plan takes into account human physiology, anatomy, nutrition, metabolic needs and deficiencies while using specific dietary remedies and the almost always neglected but extremely powerful, “mechanical remedies.”

All of these have been carefully planned and refined to provide you the most powerful, synergistic constipation relief plan that will relieve you of even the most stubborn of constipation episodes within as quick as 15 minutes and less than 24 Hours.
